Corridor D is part of the Appalachian Development Highway System is travels from Cincinnati, Ohio to Bridgeport, West Virginia where it meets Interstate 79.
In 1965, Corridor D (U.S. Route 50) was one of 23 high-speed transportation corridors proposed by the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC).
The objective for the development of Corridor D was to provide access to major urban centers along the East Coast from points throughout the Midwest, while providing opportunities for economic development in Northwest West Virginia and Southeast Ohio.

The PARC report argued that Appalachian development could not proceed until its regional isolation was overcome by its "penetration by an adequate transportation network." (2) Congress responded to the report by passing the Appalachian Regional Commission Act of 1965 (ARCA) (P.L.89-4).
The ADHP is administered by the ARC (12).
By statute, the ARC transmits to the U.S. Secretary of Transportation its designations of general corridor locations and termini of development highways, local access roads to be constructed, and priorities for the construction of segments of the development highways.

 Interstate 22 - Encyclopedia, History, Geography and Biography
The part of I-22 east of Fulton, Mississippi was approved in 1978 as Corridor X, part of the Appalachian Development Highway System.
Parts of the highway have been under construction ever since, with the final portions in Northwest Alabama remaining to be completed.
In 2004 Corridor X was designated as Future Interstate 22 by Public Law No: 108-199, and the designation was made official on April 18, 2005.

Corridor H would be one of six (D, E, G, H, L, and Q) AHDS routes planned for and ultimately built in West Virginia.
This corridor had the highway running northeast from Elkins to Parsons, east from Parsons to Davis, then a northern arc route via Bismark and Scherr to Moorefield, then running east to Virginia in the shadows of current WV 55.
The four-lane portion of highway directly east of Elkins and part of the original Corridor H would not be part of the new route.

The existence of the Appalachian Regional Commission manifests a recognition by the Congress that the joint federal-state effort which led to the development of the Act is essential to the effective implementation of the programs which it authorized.
The State Development Plans shall reflect the Commission's strategic plan, its goals and objectives, and its guiding principles and shall describe the inter-relationship between economic development in the Appalachian portion of the state and the Appalachian Development Highway System corridors located in the state.
The general corridor locations and termini described in Appendix 1, and shown in Appendix 2, are approved as the Appalachian Development Highway System: Provided that the Commission shall in no event assist in the construction or right-of-way acquisition of any portion of such System which exceeds the number of miles authorized by law.
