It was built in the 3rd century BC and remained operational until it was largely destroyed by two (Shaking and vibration at the surface of the earth resulting from underground movement along a fault plane of from volcanic activity) earthquakes in the 14th century.
As it can be seen from images of the Lighthouse on Roman coins struck by the Alexandrian mint, there were four statues of (Tropical marine gastropods having beautifully colored spiral shells) tritons blowing horns, one on every corner of the building.
As the landscape in the area was very flat and lacking in the kind of landmark used at the time for (The guidance of ships or airplanes from place to place) navigation, a marker of some sort at the mouth of the harbour was deemed necessary.

The Lighthouse of Alexandria (often called the " Pharos of Alexandria " after the island on which it resided), was considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
As the landscape in the area was very flat and lacking in the kind of landmark used at the time for navigation, a marker of some sort at the mouth of the harbour was deemed necessary.
The lighthouse was built by Sostratus of Cnidus in the 3rd century BC, the project having been initiated by the first Hellenistic ruler of Egypt, Ptolemy I of Egypt, a general of Alexander the Great placed as "protector of the land" or " Satrap ".

Corsewall Lighthouse is situated on the northern tip of the Rhinns of Galloway.
The Northern Lighthouse Board Engineer investigated the possibility, and in 1815 decided that a light at the entrance of Lochryan in Galloway and also one on Point of Ayre is the Isle of Man, would be the most beneficial improvement that could be made on the West coast.
Corsewall Lighthouse was automated in 1994 and is now remotely monitored from the Northern Lighthouse Board’s offices in Edinburgh.

Arrived at Corsewall lighthouse,must have had the best supernumaries accommodation in the service,two bedrooms,living room,kitchen and a proper bathroom,the only drawback was the water came from a well and you had to remember to top the water tanks up.
The light was the by now usual lens,clockwork mechanism and Chance Brothers lamp along with two cylinder Kelvin diesels for the fog siren.
Corsewall was control station for radio communication too Sanda,Pladda,Holy Island and Ailsa Craig rock stations.
