Corvallis is admired for its tree-lined streets and numerous parks, its historic courthouse, storefronts, homes, and other structures, its traditional downtown--with small shops and restaurants, and its Riverfront Commemorative Park, which runs along the Willamette River, on the eastern edge of downtown.
Situated midway in the Willamette Valley, Corvallis is about 85 miles south of Portland, 30 miles south of the state capital, Salem, ten miles west of Albany and the I-5 highway, and 44 miles north of Eugene / Springfield.

Corvallis City Councilors adopted a resolution late Monday night opposing provisions of the USA Patriot Act that have drawn constitutional questions from numerous factions within the nation.
Under provisions of the adopted resolution, the city manager will direct city employees to forward all requests from federal authorities such as subpoenas, court orders and warrants to the city manager's office, and the city manager will report on any such requests to the city council.
Likewise, the resolution calls for the city manager to direct the Corvallis Police Department to remain vigilant in preserving the rights of Corvallis residents and continue to carry out investigations without any preferential or discriminatory treatment.
