Aztec style pottery at Cotaxtla presents some interpretive difficulties because alternative explanations may account for its presence: the use of imperial style by Aztec administrative personnel, the presence of foreign residents using items in domestic contexts, or simply the emulation of foreign/imperial styles by local elites or residents.
If Cotaxtla or other parts of Veracruz received Aztec residents, it is possible that they used mainly local pottery styles, which may account for low frequencies of Aztec styles in general from the Gulf lowlands.
During field survey at Cotaxtla, a considerable number of tenons were observed and recorded from dispersed areas of the site (Figure 5).

Fruit harvest maturity is based on several practical indices among which water volume removed by the fruit is a precise method.
So in a study carried out using sixteen 31 year-old mango tres from a grove located at the Cotaxtla Experimental Station, in Veracruz, Mexico 11 samplings of fruits per sample and each tree, were done starting at 20 days of age up to 131 days (30 days after maturity).
Fruits sampled were divided by their basal, medium and distal diameters in height and width; as well as length from the base of fruit to the middle and from this to the distal end.

A reliable screening method, based on shoot growth and leaf expansion, was used to identify Calima and G 21212 as landraces resistant to toxic levels of manganese.
Four genotypes (G 21212, MAM 38, 'Negro Cotaxtla 91', and VAX 2,) were shown as being superior in their tolerance of low P supply in soil.
G 21212 was particularly outstanding in its ability to use P and N for grain production.
