 Cotinga family
Snow (2004) writes: "Following a number of nineteenth-century anatomical studies, these three families were distinguished from one another on the basis of the shape of the bill and the scutellation of the tarsus, as well as whether or not the toes were untied and, if they were, to what extent.
The world of the cotingas is vast and wonderful and full of marvels, some of them with as yet little explanation.
The book covers only the "core" cotingas — just 65 species — and did not have plantcutters, sharpbill, or most of the 30-odd "difficult" species which may or may not be in the family.
