At noon, the Provincial Assembly of Cotopaxi agreed to suspend the strike on the condition that the Cotopaxi Electrical Company be excluded from a government bidding process by February 26.

The project adapts participatory research methods, which have been successfully used with men and women in rural communities in the Andean and Amazon zone of Ecuador, and introduces them in formal school settings working with children aged 12-16 years.
IIRR has evaluated these programs and is working to scale up this project by a) piloting the farmer research methodology in ten public schools in the Cotopaxi province, b) expanding the program to reach additional public schools in the province and region, and c) developing farmer-research groups in other poor rural communities in need.
IIRR began a joint micro-credit enterprise project with TRIAS (formerly the Asociacion para la Cooperacion Tecnica- Belgium, ACT) in 1997 that was a success in the Riobamba Region of Ecuador.
