The comment "record generated 28/3/03" relates to when the details of the observation was entered into the NPWS Willdife Atlas data base, not when the bird was seen.

N THE MORNING of 9 April 1997, I was leading a Naturetrek tour at Aqaba sewage works when my attention was drawn to a small greyish bird amongst Garganey Anas querquedula and Teal Anas crecca.
The bird was shown to the group before I concluded that it was a female Cotton Teal Nettapus coromandelianus, the first record in Jordan (Andrews 1995).
Cotton Teal is a vagrant to eastern Arabia, in Bahrain and UAE, is scarce but regular in Oman, and has been recorded in Iran (Porter 1996).

The numbers of species and the number of birds observe in the survey on each occasion were in inverse proportion to the amount of precipitation that fell during the period immediately preceding the day of the survey.

 Trip Report - Tainan: In Search of Rarities
This is a single day Pi-Li birding trip to Tainan County in southern Taiwan in search of the following rarities: Black-faced Spoonbills, Pheasant-tailed Jacanas, Cotton Pygmy Goose, Caspian Terns, Greater Spotted Eagle, and Black Storks.
The only unsuccessful targets were the Black Storks and Greater Spotted Eagle, but some other unanticipated rarities also showed up instead.
To our delight, we also saw the female COTTON PYGMY GOOSE, a vagrant that also visited the same pond a year ago.

Lake Mary is a spectacular wetland that was created to retain floodwaters and maintain feed for cattle during drought conditions.
Many of these ponded pasture type areas have become important breeding areas fro threatened bird species such as the cotton pygmy goose Nettapus coromandelianus.
Unfortunately, Hymenachne, an introduced grass, is taking over many of these areas and threatening the value of these wetlands as a breeding habitat for birds.
