Fall mornings are usually cool, but it’s still early September and even at Cottonwood’s elevation most of us had decided and with Alan’s confirmation wore no arm warmers, jackets, etc. The most cold-blooded cycled away from Cottonwood in arm-warmers, but we didn’t get very close to Grangeville before everyone was in shorts and jerseys.
Generous snacks in Grangeville and the knowledge that the rest of his ride would be down hill to varying degrees seemed to revive him, and he was often in the lead again after his repast.
From the bottom of the Mt. Idaho Grade we followed the beautiful South Fork wishing the temps were warm enough to force us into the crystal clear water that doesn’t flow so rapidly in September.
