		The evening began with Mozart String Quartet No. 19 in C major "Dissonance", which was performed with such enthusiasm and expression that I decided Mozart must have had an intimate relationship with the violin.
		This intense piece of music was brought to its limits by the Coull Quartet, as they tackled every arpeggio with vibrancy and exuberance.
		The Coull String Quartet was a wonderful opportunity to experience Mozart, Elgar and Schubert's music in the most intimate way.

		The Coull Quartet, playing mostly with restrained vibrato and moderate accentuation, avoid the usual trap of trying to "put in" too much expression, which usually results in overheated, tiring performances.
		In this case, the Coulls have a persuasive grasp of Mendelssohn's intentions, and the technique to put it into practice.

		It is easy to like - an engaging mix of lyricism and energy - and should be far better known.
		The Coull Quartet does an excellent job in this piece, as well as in the beautiful and more familiar Elgar Quartet, and the lovely and rarer work by Frank Bridge, his "Three Idylls." Warmth and thoughtfulness are present everywhere.
		This was my introduction to this group, and I eagerly look forward to hearing more of their work.
