Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE, formerly Council for the Preservation of Rural England) is a voluntary anti-urbanist, pro-nature organisation founded in 1926.
They are one of the more powerful non-party groups in England, underlying cross-party agreements on preventing urban sprawl or ribbon development and have featured in campaigns of scepticism towards supposedly benign new technologies such as battery farming, GM foods and tall wind turbines and against insensitive profit-led coniferous plantations.
CPRE's Chief Executive is Shaun Spiers and its Chairman is Sir Max Hastings.

 RCEP
CPRE is a strong champion of the emerging principles of plan, monitor and manage (PMM) as a means of guiding future planning policies and practice and as an alternative to trend-based planning and predict-and-provide.
CPRE strongly supports the integration of transport planning with wider spatial planning and land use policies at a regional level and for decisions over major infrastructure predominantly to be made at this level.
CPRE strongly believes that RPG will need to be placed on a statutory footing if it is to be given a wider role in the planning process than is currently the case and will need to be the overarching policy document for regional decisions (including by RDAs and other Government departments).

CPRE identifies public libraries as an essential resource in our efforts to help shape and improve environmental policy and decisions, especially at a local level.
Libraries often provide the sole source of information to CPRE Branches, local groups and interested members of the public wishing to comment on planning applications, road proposals, local authority development plans and other issues which affect the environment.
It is a central objective of CPRE to help people to shape the environment around them and empower them to become involved in environmental decisions.

We want to protect the environment without being overly bureaucratic." The directive was used to prosecute Britain over the M3 motorway cutting through Twyford Down in Hampshire, but the case was dropped.
