		The seven States of the North East (A republic in the Asian subcontinent in southern Asia; second most populous country in the world; achieved independence from the United Kingdom in 1947) India viz.
		The Council is an advisory body and may discuss any matter in which the north-eastern states have a common interest and advise the Central Government as to the action to be taken on any such matter.
		The council has funded projects producing around 250 MW of electricity to reduce the regions dependency on (A state in eastern India) West Bengal and (State in eastern India on the Bay of Bengal) Orissa.

	U.N. Security Council Consideration of North Korea's Violations of its Nuclear Treaty Obligations
		However, North Korea claimed a special status under the NPT as a result of its suspended withdrawal, and it continued to bar both the special inspection and regular inspections under the safeguards agreement.
		IAEA inspectors, who were in North Korea March 3-14, reported that North Korean officials had prevented them from conducting two types of inspection procedures (collecting samples of materials and a gamma ray scan) in North Korea's plutonium reprocessing plant at Yongbyon, the site of key nuclear installations.
		U.N. member nations are required, by article 25 of the U.N. Charter, to implement Council sanctions, imposed under Chapter VII of the Charter, and the Council normally creates a committee of the whole to monitor implementation of the sanctions resolution.

	CNN.com - Security Council to discuss North Korea - Jan. 10, 2003
		The news came at the end of a day of international condemnation of North Korea's announcement that it would withdraw from the treaty aimed at controlling the spread of nuclear weapons technology around the world while promoting peaceful development of nuclear power technology.
		The nuclear nonproliferation treaty is an international agreement that took force in 1970 when the five countries that at that time acknowledged having nuclear weapons pledged not to share that technology and others pledged not to attempt to acquire it.
		North Korea ratified the treaty in 1985, but in 1993 it gave the statutory 90 days' notice of withdrawal before reversing that plan with one day to go.

	South Korea Opposes Security Council Referral for North Korea -- 04/21/2005 (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-16)
		North Korea announced on Feb. 10 that it had developed nuclear weapons and would not be attending further six-party talks.
		Critics interpret the "independent" policy as entailing a shift closer towards the North and its Chinese ally, and away from the U.S. and its closest ally in the region, Japan.
		In the end, two months after the referral, council members merely "expressed their concern" and said "the council will continue to follow up developments," in the words of the then president of the 15-member body.

		The North/South Ministerial Council (NSMC) was established on Thursday 2 December 1999 on the entry into force of the British-Irish Agreement, which was signed by the British and Irish Governments as part of the Agreement reached in the Multi-Party Negotiations on Good Friday in Belfast on 10 April, 1998 ("the Agreement").
