Reviews by Maurice Broaddus: Infinite Crisis
The DC universe was a confusing multiverse caused by one man’s actions “and his blasphemous actions corrupted the innate nature of the cosmos. During Crisis on Infinite Earths, the universes were merged into one, consolidating the histories of the characters and their various incarnations.
While Infinite Crisis is a sequel of sorts to Crisis on Infinite Earths, it also springs from some of the events and revelations from Identity Crisis.
Infinite Crisis is as self-contained a story as Identity Crisis, meaning that the bait-and-switch feeling you may be experiencing is because this story is also part of an larger on-going story setting up the next big event, 52.

 Infinite Crisis
Infinite Crisis is the title of a seven-issue comic book limited series published by DC Comics beginning in October 2005.
Although the first issue of Infinite Crisis was released on 12 October 2005, the plot threads, and various precursors, had been explored for a long time in many major events, such as the 2004 mini-series Identity Crisis.
Infinite Crisis was announced at the end of March 2005, with the release of Countdown to Infinite Crisis (which had previously simply been solicited as "DC Countdown" to keep the title and nature of the upcoming miniseries a secret) followed by four six-issue miniseries.

INFINITE CRISIS is the hardcover collection of the hottest story in comics: one that changes everything you know about the heroes and villains of the DC Universe.
Infinite Crisis picks up after the events of Identity Crisis and a number of lead-in mini-series', and comes on the 20th anniversary of Crisis on Infinite Earths, which was one of the few cross overs that actually delivered on it's promise and changed everything about the DC universe at the time.
Infinite Crisis is considerably more tragic than the original Crisis on Infinite Earths because it involves the descent of some of DC comic's greatest heroes.

Infinite Crisis #1 - PopMatters Comic Book Review
Crisis on Infinite Earths was the 1985 maxi-series written by Marv Wolfman and drawn by George Pérez created to try to streamline and simplify 50 years of continuity by drastically cutting down the cast of the DC Universe and starting many characters almost from scratch.
Infinite Crisis makes no claims about doing similar, but the series' devotion to past continuity makes it almost unapproachable to anyone but the most rabidly dedicated DC fan.
And since Infinite Crisis is rumored to be a series that will have a lasting effect on the entire DC Universe in the years to come, the series will be picked up by a number of new readers just to see what changes will be made.

Countdown to Infinite Crisis » PopCultureShock
Countdown is a decent enough comic on it’s own in terms of the writing, the way it ends seems like they’re desperate to add some zing for fear that it won’t be taken seriously otherwise.
Regardless, the art is a secondary consideration in the case of Countdown to Infinite Crisis, and with that as a given it does it’s job for the length of the story.
Countdown wanted to get a rise out of the comics scene and as of the writing of this review, has done admirably well.

Crisis on Infinite Earths is pretty much required reading in order to fully appreciate not only the tone of this story, but the plot itself.
In the original Crisis, there was no tearing down of the heroes before the major event, and in that respect, Infinite Crisis has set itself apart.
Crisis on Infinite Earths was special because it was basically creating a whole new sub-genre for super-hero stories.

 Infinite Crisis - Uncyclopedia
DC Comics had done a Crisis on Infinite Earths aka COIE series and it had confused the readers.
Identity Crisis - Heroes had undergone Identity Crisises and created their own sockpuppet identities, it was revealed that Ambush Bug had found the Anti-Monitor's armor and that this would make him the Apex Predator for the upcoming Infinite Crisis.
So DC created Prelude to Infinite Crisis and Countdown to Infinite Crisis by trying to explain the events that were happening, all the while killing the sockpuppet C-List super hero known as The Blue Bettle.

It's called Infinite Crisis, a mega crossover that extends across all of the books in the DC universe, sure to effect continuity and the future direction of all DC heroes for years to come.
It was Crisis on Infinite Earths that eliminated the need for multiple earths and multiple versions of the same superhero, allowing continuity to run smoothly and making DC Comics easier to follow.
The lasting impact of "Crisis" is that its effects on continuity are still being felt today, something that DC hopes to repeat with Infinite Crisis, so it's appropriate they paid homage to the original in the title.

 Gay League - DC Countdown
Thematically, COUNTDOWN mines similar emotional territory as IDENTITY CRISIS, and explores the personal threat posed to a hero and those close to him when his secret identity is discovered.
The seriousness of the dangers the heroes faced in CRISIS were palpable, and there were dire consequences as several heroes struggled and perished in their attempts to save the universe.
Overall, COUNTDOWN is more of a prologue, or sampler of things to come in the DCU, rather than a satisfying, complete story, which is more of what I was expecting.

The comic is bound to appeal to longtime fans of the DC universe, dealing as it does with a conspiracy which undermines all the heroes of earth, from Superman to the Blue Beetle, from Batman to Booster Gold.

Comic Book Resources - CBR News: Talking revelations in "Countdown To Infinite Crisis" with Keith Giffen
Last Wednesday, DC Comics released their latest universe-spanning event "Countdown to Infinite Crisis," which sets things in to motion for a massive storyline that will unfold over the next year or so.
This follows the success the publisher had with "Identity Crisis," and given the fact that DC announced "Countdown" has already sold out of its first printing, it's clear this latest event is experiencing a similar level of success.
With the loss of one member in the pages of "Identity Crisis" and now a second in the pages of "Countdown to Infinite Crisis," Giffen says his reaction to the deaths of both characters was about the same.

Villains United sees the Countdown to Infinite Crisis series back on form in the capable hands of Gail Simone.
Despite featuring a raft of DC Universe villains the average comic reader probably won't recognise - with the exception of Lex Luthor and a few cameos from bigger names - Simone manages to build a coherent structure around a significant cull of minor evil characters.
The basic premise is that Luthor is looking to build a league of super-villains with the direct aim of taking down the superheroes once and for all, using the unheroic actions of the superhero fraternity in Identity Crisis as a draw to pull his unruly mob together.
