IITAP Counterparts report   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-17)
For the Friends of Foreign Wives organization, the Counterparts program provided an opportunity for women who are professionals in their home countries to be involved with local professionals in their field while they are in Ames.
Some Counterparts were also able to attend a mid-summer evaluation session called by Dr.Vary during the week he was back on the ISU campus, during a break from his summer research in Heidelberg.
It was noted throughout the project that the Counterparts were extremely pleased to be included in a university-based activity.

 RUSH Counterparts reviews and MP3
Thematically, "Counterparts" speaks to the relationships between man and woman (in case the nut-and-bolt illustration wasn't obvious enough), the role that sex plays in life and death, searching for a balance between masculine and feminine, and an instrumental ("Leave That Thing Alone!") that might be better left to the imagination.
Counterparts is the culmination of years of weening away from keyboards into a heavier sound; harkening back to the classic late 70's - early 80's period of progressive Rush music.
Counterparts sees the band flirting with the Grunge sound that was peaking in 1993; ‘Stick it Out', with its dropped D tuning, succeeds as the most obvious example of this genre.

 Elias Transcripts — Session 133, Sunday, November 17, 1996
In our discussion of counterparts, I wish to not be misleading you into the thought that all of your counterparts are known to you, or that all of the individuals that you encounter within physical focus are counterparts of you, for they are not.
Therefore, they are counterparts to each other, and encounter their own counterparts, and they are overlapping counterpart with group interaction.
This would require an understanding of the counterpart, and a realization of the counterpart and the action that you engage with this counterpart, who may be located somewhere quite removed from you upon your globe.

I am often in the minority in my view of this, but I feel "Counterparts" is the Rush masterpiece of the '90s, and may well be their best album.
It would have been easy to keep churning out their blend of hard rock and progressive rock year after year and milking it for all it was worth, but Rush has always been about trying new things and doing the unexpected.
Counterparts is a unusually good CD because you can pretty much listen to it continuously without having to skip from song to song...and in my humble opinion those are the makings of a strong record.

 COUNTERPARTS HISTORY
Although some of the advisors at the national and regional levels may have been assigned to work in government offices located in larger cities or large foreign military bases, many of the advisors were assigned to teams that operated in rural and remote areas.
US advisors normally lived in close proximity to their Counterparts and as a result shared the daily lives of not only the counterpart, but the Counterparts family, hamlet and village.
The inclusion of both US and their foreign Counterparts in the organization dictated that a new organization name be found that would convey this element of the group personality.

 Counterparts by Rush CD
COUNTERPARTS contains at least one track that deals with a topical issue (as in 1989's anti-suicide "The Pass," etc.)--"Nobody's Hero" is Rush's analysis of the AIDS situation.
But not all of the tracks were conceived as lyrical epics; the opening "Animate" and "Stick It Out" delight in the strength of the band's re-discovered hard rock chops.
Counterparts is definately Rush's best work of the 90s era.

RARB Review of Counterparts - High Dive
The Counterparts have followed up on last year's success with a diverse collection of adult contemporary music with a sprinkling of good old-fashioned jazz tunes.
The Counterparts' crisp, professional sound is enviable throughout this album, but it is all meaningless unless it is coupled with high energy performances.
This isn't a fabulous CD, but the Counterparts still hold their reputation as one of the finer co-ed groups in the country.

The first Rush album worth getting excited about in years, Counterparts brings to the fore an edgier sound and songs with more emotion than they’ve had since Moving Pictures.
The theme of Counterparts is just that, a musical examination of two-part systems such as man/woman in the case of both "Alien Shore" and "The speed of love".
This certainly seems like a perfect counterpart to the more restrained Rush albums we've come to expect.

Opener "Animate" is straightforward enough, but doesn't even hint at the guitar ferocity and lyrical angst of "Stick it Out," a song which undoubtedly polarizes Rush fans to this day.
