To be eligible for the office of county judge, a person must be an elector of the county and must have been a member of The Florida Bar for five years; in counties with a population of 40,000 or less, a person must only be a member of The Florida Bar.
County judges are eligible for assignment to circuit court, and they are frequently assigned as such within the judicial circuit that embraces their counties.
The county courts are sometimes referred to as "the people's courts," probably because a large part of the courts' work involves voluminous citizen disputes, such as traffic offenses, less serious criminal matters (misdemeanors), and relatively small monetary disputes.

 Colorado State Judicial Branch - County Courts
County courts handle civil cases involving no more than $15,000, misdemeanor cases, felony advisements, bond setting, preliminary hearings, and traffic cases.

 Judicial Circuit Overview
Court Administrator Ruben O. Carrerou manages the Administrative Office of the Courts, whose primary purpose is to provide support to the judiciary and maintain the efficient operations of the court.
He acts as liaison with the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in all judicial administrative matters and is responsible for the efficient and proper administration of the circuit and county courts.
A court administrator in each of Florida's 20 judicial circuits is appointed by the chief judge, subject to the concurrence of a majority of the circuit and county court judges, to oversee the non-judicial administration of the court.

County courts and county judge's courts are separate and distinct constitutional courts and statute conferring upon Supreme Court power to prescribe, inter alia, practice and procedure in civil courts of record, circuit courts and county courts, confers no power with respect to county judge's courts.
The terms of County Courts were four times per year as prescribed by the act or acts creating such courts, providing that misdemeanor cases the defendant and prosecuting attorney may agree to waive trial by jury, such cases may be heard in vacation (see 34.02 prior to 1972).
The county court shall have jurisdiction concurrent with the circuit to consider landlord and tenant cases involving claims in amounts which are within its juridictional limitations.

In the more populated counties, the administrative duties occupy most of the time of the county judge, and the Legislature has created county courts at law and statutory probate courts to relieve the county judge of most, and in some cases all, of the judicial duties usually performed by that office.

Spokane County’s court commissioners have some of the same powers and duties of the judges, and sit as judges pro tempore if all parties agree to have their case heard by a commissioner.
The elected Clerk of the Superior Court is responsible for the maintenance and security of the official court files, processing all papers filed and exhibits, such as documents, weapons, pictures, etc. This office collects fines, fees, restitution, child support and spousal maintenance (alimony), keeps track of those payments for the court and furnishes courtroom clerks.
