London County Council (LCC) was the principal local government body for the County of London from 1889 until 1965, when it was replaced by the Greater London Council.
County Hall County Hall is a building in Lambeth, London, that was the headquarters of London County Council and later the Greater London Council (GLC).
In 2005 the Mayor of London is seeking greater influence over housing policy and the distribution of social housing units, partly because some outer boroughs are perceived as unreceptive to higher density layouts and eager to preserve a degree of social stratification.

London, the capital of England and chief city of the British Empire, is situated about fifty miles from the mouth of the Thames, Lat.
London, as defined by the Metropolis Local Management Act, now the County of London, with a population (last census 1901) of 4,536,541 and an area of 75,462 statute acres, or about 117 square miles.
London at this time consisted of a collection of low wooden houses thatched with reeds or straw, thus affording combustible material for the numerous and destructive fires which frequently broke out, as in 1087 when the greater part of the city, including St. Paul's, was burnt.

After her death in 1955 at the age of 84, her will directed that the house be used as a memorial to Jack London and as a museum that would house the London collection of photographs and exhibits about the life and adventures of the world-famous author.
Jack London's ashes were placed on the little hill close beside the plain wooden headboards that marked the graves of two pioneer children.
London used the foundation of the ruin and built an upper story wooden building which was used as a carriage house, living quarters for ranch hands, and rooms for his many guests.

The Battalion changed its name in Oct 1914 to the 1/13th (County of London) Bn (Princess Louise’s Kensington Bn).
In 1908 when the Territorial Force was formed the 26th and 27th Bns of the London Regt were allocated to the Honourable Artillery Company and the Inns of Court.

 County of London and Greater London Plans
J.H. Forshaw (architect to the London County Council) and Patrick Abercrombie (professor of Town Planning at UCL) were therefore commissioned to draw up such a plan for the old County of London.
The authors saw London's four `major defects' as traffic congestion, depressed housing, inadequacy and maldistribution of open spaces, and the jumble of houses and industry ("indeterminate zoning").
This was intended to "girdle the general limits of the built-up area in London", in conjunction with the Green Belt.
