Most of these rivers have their sources in the great mountain ranges of the south and west, and flow northerly and easterly, reaching the Atlantic Ocean after meandering through virgin forests.
Four major rivers cross the Guyana coastal plain - (from west to east) the Essequibo, the Demerara, the Berbice, and the Courantyne.
This river gave the name to the county of Demerara wherein Georgetown (the capital city) is situated, and after which, Demerara Sugar, Demerara Rum, and Demerara Windows, are named.

My task was to empower the seven women who presently work at a factory to be self-sustaining by mid-July, at which time the factory will be turned over to them for complete operation, from purchasing and processing to bookkeeping and marketing.

The Paramaribo Swamp forests ecoregion extends as a narrow, near-coastal strip across all of northern Suriname, from the Corantijn River along the Guyanan border to the Marowijne River along the French Guianan border.
