Supreme Court Strikes Down Line-Item Veto - June 25, 1998
WASHINGTON (AllPolitics, June 25) -- The line-item veto is unconstitutional, the Supreme Court decided Thursday, ruling that Congress did not have the authority to hand that power to the president.
The court's ruling was a defeat for the Clinton Administration, which asked the high court to reverse the lower court's ruling.
The court ruling comes as Congress is preparing the budget for 1999.

Court Line was a UK holiday charter airline in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Other airlines were quick to jump on the burgeoning package tour bandwagon and in the early 1970s, a holiday in Majorca or on the Costa del Sol became affordable to the average person for the first time.
In 1973, Court Line ordered the first pair of Lockheed L-1011 TriStars to be registered in the UK (G-BAAA and G-BAAB).

The "deuce service court" is sometimes called the "right service court" and the "ad service court" is sometimes called the "left service court," but since the left and right sides are reversed from the point of view of your opponent on the opposite end, these names can be confusing.
The "deuce service court" is also sometimes called the "forehand service court" and the "ad service court" is also sometimes called the "backhand service court," but these names can also be confusing since a right-handed player and a left-handed player have their forehands and backhands on opposite sides.
The service courts have the names they do because when the score is deuce, the next serve is made to the deuce service court, and when the score is either ad-in or ad-out, the next serve is made to the ad service court.

The district court’s grant of summary judgment of noninfringement as to claim 1 of the ’143 patent was premised on the court’s claim construction.
The district court interpreted the reference in the specification to a “contour that approaches toroidal,” ’143 patent, col. 4, line 12, as indicating that the recited surface could include a surface that approximates a toroidal shape, but could not include the toroidal shape itself.

The senior heir of line is the party entitled by the rules and practice of heraldry to bear the plain arms of the family.(3) 4.
I think that it amounts to a recognition of the heir of line, not the heir-male, as the head of both families, and of his right as holding that position to all their indivisible heritable rights, and to the arms, including the supporters-if not absolutely, at all events in a question between the present parties.
But although the Lyon Court is a statutory tribunal with undoubted jurisdiction on other matters, the Lyon's decision upon a submission of that kind would be the decision of an arbiter, and not the decision of one of the Courts of the realm.

The Supreme Court has rejected a Republican-backed plan to redraw the congressional districts in Colorado in a way that would have favored GOP candidates.
The state court had ruled that the Republican-controlled legislature violated Colorado's constitution when it approved the redistricting plan in 2003, after a judge had already redrawn the districts' boundaries.
Those boundaries, the state court had said, could only be reconfigured once a decade, after a census.

The reason for this is most commercially sold court stencils are for residential use and most residential applications are not large enough to accommodate a three point line.
This coupled with the fact that adding the three point line to a court stencil would double or possibly even triple the cost to the customer.

In August 2003, the Supreme Court reversed a ruling by District Judge John Brackley against the plaintiff, Leslie McMackin, who filed a wrongful death suit after her mother died of a stroke at the health-care center.
In an opinion written by Chief Justice William Hill, the court majority found that an issue to be decided by the district court was whether the defendants' actions caused a "loss of chance" for Brown to survive the stroke.
In an unusual move, the Supreme Court agreed to re-hear the case after the defendants claimed the court was wrong in adopting the "loss of chance" doctrine in the McMackin case.

The important thing is to try to have the signals be consistent and to make some kind of sense in order to ease the learning task for the players.

The only decision yet on the merits of the line-item veto came in early April, when U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson ruled that the veto law violates the Constitution's separation of powers, which gives Congress the power to tax and spend.
