Barbados cricket captain Courtney Browne resigns Barbados cricket captain Ryan Hinds replaces him
THE ANNOUNCEMENT by Courtney Browne that he has decided to give up the captaincy of the Barbados cricket team and to retire from first-class cricket came as a shock this week.
Browne's stint as a West Indies player came to an end last year when, not for the first time, he was harangued because of what was regarded as an unforgivable error on his part as a wicketkeeper.
Indeed, Browne's announced retirement contrasts sharply with that of Sherwin Campbell, also a former captain, who would have been discarded for the last time by selectors this week when they chose a team to prepare for the forthcoming regional series, and he was not included.

Jamaica Gleaner - FROM THE BOUNDARY - Time for Browne to go - Friday | June 10, 2005
According to them, the West Indies lost the Test match because of Courtney Browne the wicketkeeper who, with Pakistan, trailing the West Indies by 30 runs on first innings, with Pakistan on 119 for three after losing two wickets without scoring a run, dropped Inzamam first ball.
Had Browne taken that catch, Pakistan would have been 119 for four, they would have lost three wickets without scoring a run, and although one never knows what would have happened after that, chances are Pakistan would not have recovered.
Since then, the fans have been calling for Browne's head, and although it is usually unfair to blame one man for a loss, such is Browne's history of dropping catches that have proven deadly for the West Indies that it is difficult not to blame him for this defeat.
