As Kupets prepares to defend her title at the 2004 U.S. Championships (June 2-5 in Nashville), she says she is hopeful about her chances to compete in Athens.
Kupets told IG soon after her surgery that the doctors insisted she'd be back "stronger than ever." The doctors' prognosis has been supported by her recent competition results.
Kupets won the all-around at an international meet held in Texas in mid-May; that meet was her first full competition since last August, complete with a revamped uneven bars routine and a new opening tumbling pass.

Also, Courtney did great at the Parkette Invitational, which was held the last weekend in January of 99.

Courtney Kupets is the 2003 world champion and 2003 U.S. national champion at the age of 16.
Kupets went on to win her first national all-around title at the 2003 U.S. Gymnastics Championships, along with a silver medal on the uneven bars and bronze on the floor exercise.
Kupets competed in the 2001 Glasgow Grand Prix in England and earned a top-four finish in both vault and bars and won the all-around and all four events at the 2000 Bluewater International Invitational in Canada.
