UFO was a band that sadly got swept aside in the '80's, when peers like Scorpions and Judas Priest were getting their kudos for influencing the the NWOBHM.
Those next for albums are along with this the best albums UFO ever released, later in the bands carear Schenker would return to do a few more albums, as he did with The Scorpions, the albums these bands did with Schenker wee the best albums they would ever create.
UFO did this type of song very well when they had Schenker, whose crying guitar solo in the middle may be the best thing I think he has ever done and is to me one of the highlights of the album.

UFO return with the legacy of their past behind them — a new line-up has emerged out of the departure of Michael Schenker and it seems he won't be back this time.
For UFO fans this is one of the greatest album by UFO.
I dreaded a non Schenker or Chapman released album at this stage of UFO's career (following relatively weak showings with MS in "Sharks" and "Covenant"...) and I'm happy to say I was floored by the high quality of this record.

Although UFO has gone through many changes over the years, and hit a bump or two in the road along the way, it hasn’t slowed the band down one single bit.
Aside from the great classic albums UFO has put out over the years like the “Lights Out” album back in 1977, or the “Obsession” album in 1978, or even the newer albums like “Covenant” released in 2000, or their “Sharks” album in 2002, the legendary rock band still continues to write, record, and tour.
UFO is currently still touring in support of their latest album, titled “You Are Here,” released in 2004.

The new studio material finds many of the old UFO sounds and trademarks, but is perhaps a bit rawer, both in terms of production and performance.
It is all done in a very trademark UFO sort of way, though.
Beginning in a mellower sort of sound with classic UFO textures, this one suddenly kicks into gear with a familiar "feel like letting go." This is a hard-edged rocker with a good solid groove.

It's clear from the outset that this album is a rawer and less polished affair.
One problem I have always had with UFO is their lack of genuine all time classic songs and Covenant again confirms that belief.
What a sad day when what remaining members of UFO can stand to be in the same studio for a mere two weeks or less and churn out this waste of plastic.

UFO has risen again from the depths to scorch the earth with their custom blend of hard rock foot stompin' raaawwk and rollllll...
Sharks comes two decades after UFO's last meaningful hit, at a time when you'd think UFO would call it a day and raise a glass to the late '70s, when Lights Out and Obsession were huge and Strangers in the Night was being heralded as a landmark live album.
After the implosion of UFO at Manchester, and the personal traumas of various members since, I suppose I was somewhat wary at the announcement of a new UFO release.

The second album was the one that really showed their potential, and with Schenker's arrival, that potential was unleashed.
UFO's biggest hit 'Doctor, Doctor' is next with a blisterng solo and fiery leads by Schenker and a catchy chorus to boot it's no wonder this was the bands biggest hit single.
As UFO albums go, Phenomenon is only an average release, but based on the previous hippy trip albums that the group had produced, it deserves high praise indeed.

Ufo are down to play a gig in Holland on the second (Tilburg) would seem rather a long way to go to come back the day after.
Way feels COVENANT's recording captured the essence of "the roots--you know, guitar, bass, and drums." He likened the attitude and energy to what sometimes is felt when the band sound checks before gigs, and he couldn't be happier with "new" drummer Aynsley Dunbar's contributions.
Way said the writing for COVENANT was going so well with just him, Mogg, and Schenker, they all felt it was like the (pre-Raymond) good old days in the early '70s, and they saw no need to bring in another element that might cause friction for the core lineup.

UFO’s success story began in London way back in 1969, when vocalist Phil Mogg, drummer Andy Parker, guitarist Mick Bolton and bassist Pete Way formed the group, borrowing the band name from a legendary London music club.
However, Schenker left UFO during the Walk On Water tour again to continue working with his own group, MSG, while Mogg and Way went on to release their second album, Chocolate Box.

Covenant is a disc UFO should be proud of, not something to which must be attached a lame dog-ate-my-album-liner excuse.
So now UFO have come to terms with being three grim-looking, middle-aged men, plus one who looks like he's about to retch up a gout of pancreatic sick.
This means a great deal—I find it reassuring that some of my mid-'70s metal icons have attained the maturity and ability to age as fast as I can.

UFO is one of those rare bands that manage to fit the categories of cult band and legendary band simultaneously.
While it has been common knowledge for years that these two men have had their differences, no one who has heard their music can deny the chemical reaction that occurs when they put aside the bullshit and do what they do best.
During the ensuing tour, Schenker left the band suddenly, a move that echoed his often tumultuous tenure in UFO in the 70s.

Michael's soloing is a little more reserved than his work on "Walk on Water" but is not boring in the very least and there are plenty of impressive guitar licks to keep the average Schenker enthusiast happy and the powerful guitar tonality is something that I appreciate as well.
This is typical UFO writing, with the classic rock formula of, verse-chorus-verse-SCHENKER SOLO-chorus-fade out, that was so successful for them throughout their entire career.

Their 1994 "comeback" album Walk On Water was easily the strongest UFO album in recent memory, but its follow-ups, Covenant and Sharks, proved to be something of a musical anti-climax (Schenker's Written In The Sand, from the same period, was conspicuously stronger).
UFO have seen considerable ups and downs in recent years, but You Are Here shows them hitting their stride once again.
