Jacksonville is an understated, family-oriented, spread-out community with beaches, rivers, and plenty of golf courses; and maybe just enough other things to do to keep you here for a while.
Way back in the early 1800's, the St. Johns' River (which, unbelievably, was once clear and pristine) flowed (South to North, like only one other river in the world) through a several-block settlement called Cowford, around the area where present-day Bay and Liberty Streets intersect downtown.
And, here we are, 180 years later, on that same St. Johns' River, on an area quite a big larger than those original twenty blocks that the Cowforders dubbed Jacksonville in the 1820's.
