The Village of Coxsackie was part of the Mathias Houghtaling patent, granted in 1697.
At the start of the 1800's, the present village of Coxsackie was purchased by Eliakim Reed, where he established a small warf.
By an act of the New York State Legislature, the Village of Coxsackie was incorporated April 5, 1867.

The Village of Coxsackie is in the eastern part of the Town of Coxsackie.
Coxsackie is on the west bank of the Hudson River and is near U.S. Route 9W.
In the village the population was spread out with 27.1% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 27.6% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 13.7% who were 65 years of age or older.
