Cozy Cole - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cozy Cole (October 19, 1909 – January 31, 1981) is a well known jazz drummer who had a #1 hit with the song "Topsy Part 2".
The song was a drum solo, and one of the few drum solo recordings that ever made the popular Billboard top 100 (1958) charts.
He is cited as an influence by many contemporary rock drummers, including Cozy Powell, who admiringly named himself after Cole.

Cozy Cole, more than most drummers, is to be seen as well as heard, but for quite the reverse of the expected reason; he is NOT an exhibitionist!
Cole was well-featured with Cab Calloway's Orchestra (1938-1942), playing in a strong rhythm section with Bennie Payne, Danny Barker, and Milt Hinton; his showcases included "Crescendo in Drums" and "Paradiddle." Cole popped up in many different types of jazz and studio settings throughout the 1940s, and headed several record sessions with swing all-stars.

Cozy Cole : Lionel Hampton Presents Louis Armstrong Alumni - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
Although drummer Cozy Cole is listed as leader (which makes this LP the last recording session that he headed), in reality it is a co-op set supervised by vibraphonist Lionel Hampton.
Five alumni from Louis Armstrong's All-Stars (Cole and bassist Arvell Shaw from the late '40s and pianist Marty Napoleon, clarinetist Joe Muranyi and trombonist Big Chief Russell Moore from the 1960s) team up with Hamp and trumpeter Johnny Letman to pay tribute to Satch.
Two of the songs ("Louis' Dream" and "Short Ribs") have nothing to do with Armstrong but the band forms a cohesive group sound on those tunes plus six standbys from the All-Star days (including "Someday You'll Be Sorry," "Mack the Knife" and "Indiana").

From This Moment On is an eleven-song collection that captures the Canadian-born sensation in full swing, in great company, and at the top of her game.
It’s musical territory that Krall has often explored, but this album was certainly not a case of simply repeating past formulas: Krall’s A-team of support – producer Tommy LiPuma, engineer Al Schmitt and arranger/bandleader John Clayton – were on hand to ensure that inspiration was kept on an edge, unhindered by the studio environment.
