Cradle of Humanity - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The radius of 1,000 miles from Eden as the limit of the Cradle of Humanity may have been "fixed" by early Arab Christians who were the dominant inhabitants of Mesopotamia, Syria and Egypt from the second century well into the ninth century, even after Muslim conquest of the region.
It is important to note that the term "Cradle of Humanity" is not necessarily interchangeable with or identical in meaning to the expressions "Cradle of Civilization", "origin of man", or "birthplace of mankind" for those who use these phrases.
The expression "Cradle of Humanity" is frequently used by persons opposed to the expression "Middle East" when that term would seem too ambiguous in their opinion.

Apartheid and ‘The Cradle of Humankind’
As my plane readied for touchdown at South Africa’s Johannesburg International Airport, I pondered anew this beautiful country with its rich heritage of both splendour and pain.  Once the despised pariah of the international community for its enforced policy of racial ‘apartheid’ (‘separateness’), it was now nine years since the crumbling of that system.
One of the clear evidences of this wave of evolutionism was recurring publicity about ‘The Cradle of Humankind’.
The notion that humans had evolved in Africa was age-old, and had if anything contributed to the denigration of the African in the minds of Europeans.  (The subliminal message absorbed was that Africans, being geographically closer to the site of their ape ancestors, were thus also biologically closer to apes.
