When Craig DeRoche is officially sworn in as speaker of the state House of Representatives, it will be the first time since the Civil War era that Oakland County has had such a powerful presence in that legislative chamber.
DeRoche, who trumpets fiscal belt-tightening by the state, also reversed his position on the recent accelerated county tax collection plan after being asked to support it by Johnson.
As for bringing home the bacon to Oakland County, DeRoche said he'll need to be mindful of balancing all of the interests of state Republicans, and that one region cannot thrive at the expense of others.
