So hungry crane (from memory) would be a pecking style attack with the fingers bunched together to attach the groin, eyes, critical points...
I glanced through a Shaolin kung fu book and saw a position called 'the hungry crane' where the right foot was raised, poised to kick and the mans arms stretched upwards and outwards, with the fingers shaped in a stabbing shape.
not going to say anything about hungry crane but the crane i practice has a "fighting stance" if you want to call it that and ii is grounded and best way of describing it would be a 50/50 stance with your groin closed off facing diagonal.sound completely silly but i cant explain it any better.

To me, one of the key hallmarks of a good martial arts school is that it has a family feeling about it to the point that students and teachers inevitably become one big, extended family.
The one overriding lesson from my somewhat checkered martial arts past is that, as diverse as the Chinese martial arts are (including thousands of 'family styles,' some very esoteric), many of the underlying themes and concepts are similar, and the common ground inside apparently irreconcilable types of movement are often strong.

I have learned a bit in White Crane when I took some classes in a Snake styled southern CMA (of which name I have forgotten how to pronounce and spell).
I have just started at Yang's Martial Arts Academy (YMAA) in Boston, in their "external", or Shaolin program, which blends Northern Long Fist with Southern White Crane.
I've dabbled in a few other arts over the years, and this is the first time I've seen White Crane.
