The name of the Parish is the name of a Celtic Saint, Carantoc, who lived there about 1400 years ago, and the story of whose life is told in the (modern) stained-glass windows of the Church.
In Crantock, he is known as "Saint Carantoc and legend has it that his floating altar arrived on the bank of the River Gannel.
Coming ashore, he intended settling at the water's edge, but the shavings he produced for lighting a fire were carried away as soon as they were made to the site of the present church, by the dove.

Crantock is the best beach around it's got great surf and it's totally wicked I would recomend it to anyone with the passion to surf!!!!!
Crantock is always less crowded than Fistral and gets some great slow swells for longboarding.
When Fistral is big and crowded head for Crantock, I've seen this pumping tubes at low tide with no one out and fistral is Packed to bursting.

The STEPHENS family (millers) were living at Treago Mill, Crantock from the early 16th century till late 1800, before selling the Mill and moving into business in Newquay.

In summer there are two ferries operating at high tide, in winter you have to walk all the way round the head of the Gannel if you cannot cross by foot.
If the tides are wrong, you can always drive to Crantock and park there whilst you do the walk.
At the end of Crantock Beach is Vugga Cove, which has two slipways hacked out of the rock, and the ruins of a storage shed.
