		Crapflooding is a common (and wonderful) way to attack blogs or wikis.
		Literally, a crapflood is a veritable mudslide of feces.
		Similarly, on the Internets, a crapflood is a massive posting of thousands of garbage comments, usually containing pornography from the infamous Pain series, tubgirls, and goatses, along with some hateful text containing the word nigger, plus some randomized text in each post to stop the lam3r security measure of filtering duplicate posts.

		"Crapflooding" is a type of denial of service (DOS) attack on your blog in which a script is used to flood the blog with hundreds of comments a minute (trackback crapflooding and search request crapflooding are also possibilities).
		If the crapflooder is using someone else's script, he probably just has to enter the URL of your site and an entry ID and the script does the rest.
		The crapflooding script only looks for mt-comments.cgi and not some unusual name you've given the script, and it doesn't know to enter a CAPTCHA or that posting to the comment form only sends the comment to preview mode.

	Geekizoid
		Geekizoid was a weblog devoted to the complex trolling and crapflooding subculture of the popular geek weblog Slashdot.
		It first went live in early 2001 and evolved through various Slash- and Scoop-based incarnations until April 2002, when its owner began shutting down the site.

		The reason that these three tricks can be effective is that crapflooding is done using an automated comment submission script.
		There are ways around each of these tricks, but each of them alone will deter at least some crapflooders and all of them together may deter more.

		WIPO had made several “mistakes” during his crapflooding career, most notably not using HTTP proxies thereby exposing his relatively-static IP address to his victims, and linking to a nonexistent page at J’raxis·Org as his homepage in his Slashdot profile.

		My advice to you, son, is to give up on wasting your time writing crapflooding scripts.
		Someone looking to install and use a working plugin would, one would hope, use google to figure out what the community thinks is a good plugin, and then use that one.
		Meanwhile, script kiddies need to inspect each of those plugins and work out the security flaw to each of them, and then write code to work around those flaws, just in case they want to crapflood a blog which happens to have it installed.

		If you’re a programmer also, you might want to keep an eye on the latest developments at FloodMT to keep abreast of their latest developments to stay, if not a step ahead, then at least only a half step behind their developments.
		More of the background from this spate of crapflooding and the history of Dv along with FloodMT and FloodMT.perl (along with a server that seems to be having uptime issues) is available on Phil Ringalda’s site in the post and comments for Throttling Down and Confidential to my crapflooder.
		Phil is how I found the music of Kris Delmhorst, which I have really been enjoying, so a big thanks for that one Phil.

		Six-Apart, the team behind MT released a modification to enable comment throttling—limit the number of comments allowed to be posted in any given period of time—which Jacques Distler improved upon with a further patch which enabled even tighter controls on commenting including IP banning based on comment frequency—they have all been installed here as well.
		So to spread the fun a little bit once again here is the crapflooders website, or at least the “tool” that he uses: FloodMT
		If you are running MT and allow commenting or trackback pings I suggest very highly upgrading to MT 2.661, then applying the patches provided by Jacques to further tighten comment throttling and – to combat the latest annoyance, trackback spamming—trackback throttling.

		First, there are trolls and crapflooders just like every other internet community.
		Well-intentioned but wrong answers are just as big a problem as malicious trolling and crapflooding.
		Modding down and hiding someone's post will hopefully discourage trolling, but with a novice the desired response to bad advice would be to flag or hide the error, but also thank the user for at least trying to be helpful.

		I haven't checked any of the proxies there but this looks like it might come in useful; maybe not for harvesting hundreds of the buggers for crapflooding, but for general trolling it could be good.
		On the subject of crapflooding, the GNAA is in the middle of crapflooding a story (about 500 comments right now) and we can post a list of the proxies we used after we're done.
		I didn't think we officially supported crapflooding, but rather the lowering of the s/n ratio by more honorable means, like a well written troll that gets dozens of bites.

		The "pink page of death" is an infamous feature applied to IP addresses that have been used to access Slashdot many times in a short period.
		It often appears on proxies used for crapflooding, although it occasionally blocks innocent users.
