Craven Arms is a small town in South Shropshire, Shropshire, England.
Craven Arms is a relatively new town (for Shropshire), being only a small village "Newton" on a map of 1695.
It probably takes its name from the Craven Arms Hotel, situated on the junction between the A49 and the B4368 roads, which in turn is named after the Lords Craven (who historically owned Stokesay Castle).

Craven Arms Station has Shuttle buses that link with the trains here on weekends and provides main line connections to Hereford and Cardiff.

Of the two temporary marching camps discovered near Stretford Bridge the first to be established was probably the smaller marching camp at Craven Arms to the south, followed by the larger camp which occupies the inferior ground, this situation also increases the likelihood of the camps being contemporary.
It is thought likely that they both date from the initial campaigns of Scapula westwards into Wales, and were possibly built within only a few days of each other, sometime in either AD47 or 48.
One, a little north of Craven Arms and at the south boundary of the parish of Wistanstow, lies on level ground (at SO 430837) on the east side of the Roman road, there represented by a farm lane.

The Shrewsbury and Hereford line still carries main-line traffic but the Mid-Wales line only carries local trains, however the ride from Craven Arms to Llanelli is very enjoyable and the line enjoys considerable patronage in the summer.
The town takes its name from the Craven Arms Inn, shown in the picture, which was probably built in the early 1800's.
