Crayak is a nearly omnipotent entity appearing in the form of an armless cyborg creature with massive limbs and nothing but a blood-red eye for a head.
Crayak and the Ellimist directly oppose each other several times, and whenever their differences break out into open war the resulting battles are described as enough to destroy whole worlds and civilizations.
Crayak's history is largely unknown, but the Ellimist says he was expelled from another galaxy hundreds of millions of years ago by a greater power than him, and he wishes to venture back there one day to destroy this power once he has become great enough.

Ellimist - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Ellimist, as he came to be known, journeyed through the galaxy, ending wars with the vast power of his spacecraft-body, fostering peace, and essentially taking on the role of a deity for many of the planets he visited.
He makes an interesting comment in this book---that, when Crayak first saw Jake in #6: The Capture, Crayak had seen that the Ellimist "had touched (Jake)." As the Ellimist didn't appear until book 7, this implies (and Applegate confirmed on the Animorph website) that the Ellimist had "known" Jake before this point.
This new reality, however---which was supposed to give the Yeerks an easy victory---broke down, as Cassie was able to tell that the world was not as it should be.

Ellimist, to the Animorphs, seems tricky and backstabby, but is in reality trying to tilt the cosmic balance in their favour, while Crayak is effectively doing the opposite, giving the bad species like the yeerks an advantage.
Now, as all we hardcore fans know, the location on earth is a really big part in the entire cosmic scale, meaning if the good guys win, the entire milky way galaxy is saved in the long run, where if the bad guys take it, then the entire galaxy is pretty much screwed.
You see, The Ellimist and Crayak both placed one being on the planet to combat one another on earth, both human, both endowed with great potential.
