Cremorne is a small suburb in inner Melbourne bounded by the (additional info and facts about Yarra River) Yarra River, Punt Road, Swan and Church Streets, and divided down the middle by the railway to (additional info and facts about South Yarra) South Yarra.
Cremorne takes its name from the Cremorne Gardens which occupied the western half of Cremorne for a period in the mid (additional info and facts about 19th century) 19th century.
Today Cremorne is a mixture of period and modern housing, cutting edge offices, funky (Gymnastic apparatus consisting of two parallel wooden bars supported on uprights) bars and a diminishing light industrial sector.

The Queen Victoria Gardens are close to where the Cremorne Gardens were sited and how they may have looked like some 150 years ago.
James Ellis' Cremorne Gardens, on the northern bank of the river Yarra in the suburb of Richmond, displayed foreign and native animals in an amusement park filled with wonders of all sorts, thrown indiscriminately together.
The gardens were said to be patronised by all classes, and admittance was free; though occasionally a night was set aside for the 'fashionable and wealthy' to experience the pleasures on their own.
