Crescent City was incorporated in 1854, and became the county seat of Del Norte County when the county was formed in 1857.
In the city the population is spread out with 30.1% under the age of 18, 11.1% from 18 to 24, 26.7% from 25 to 44, 18.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.9% who are 65 years of age or older.
