Yonkers: County's largest city has plans to energize its economy   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-24)
Yonkers remained a private manor through much of the 18th century, under the control of the Philipse family, whose manor house still stands on the northeast corner of Larkin Plaza.

The population growth was spurred by Yonkers' proximity to New York City as immigrants from western and northern Europe flocked to the United States in the later half of the century.
