Crex has approximately 6,000 acres of open water in a normal precipitation year.
The popularity of these activities at Crex are attributed to the large size of the property, spectacular, unobstructed vistas, a great diversity and abundance of plant and wildlife species, and a system of well maintained roads, observation areas and rest area which provide excellent access and abundant opportunities for` viewing wildlife and the landscape.
Crex Meadows is intensively managed using a wide variety of wildlife management practices.

  NPWRC :: Swans, Geese, and Ducks
The largest concentration recorded at Crex Meadows, Burnett County, was 400 on 3 October 1970, and the largest number on the St. Croix County wetlands was 150 on 10 October 1975.
During the fall, pintails are fairly common at Crex Meadows, Burnett County, in central St. Croix, and eastern Washington counties, and in southern Polk County.
At the Crex Meadows Wildlife Area, Burnett County, the average date of spring arrival is 15 April; peak populations occur 1-10 May, and departure by 1 June.

Its popularity is due to its large size (approximately 30,000 acres), unobstructed vistas, diversity of habitats, diversity and abundance of wildlife, and a system of roads, observation areas, parking lots and rest areas which provide excellent access to the area and abundant opportunities to view wildlife and the landscape.
