Other African forms include the generally large-bodied pouched rats (Cricetomyinae), the diurnal herbivores in the Otomyinae (e.g., the whistling rat, Parotomys), and the rock rats (Petromyscinae).
They found that the mole-rat subfamilies (Spalacinae and Rhizomyinae) were the sister group to all other muroids, but they were unable to resolve the branching pattern, among most of the remaining subfamilies and speculated that robust resolution may never be achieved.
The sister group to the Muroidea appears to be the Dipodoidea (the largely bipedal or saltatorial jumping mice and jerboas), forming the Myodonta.

Which of these pets have you ever owned?
The family has 17 subfamilies; Arvicolinae, Calomyscinae, Cricetinae, Cricetomyinae, Dendromurinae, Gerbillinae, Lophiomyinae, *Murinae*, Myospalacinae, Mystromyinae, Nesomyinae, Otomyinae, Petromyscinae, Platacanthomyinae, Rhizomyinae, Sigmodontinae, and Spalacinae.
Cricetomyinae are mourats with pouches, which is weird, so we will ignore them.
No one really knows wtf Calomyscinae is, but because it is under 5.5, it is called a hamster-mouse [and presumably, if it were over, it would be a hamster rat].
