Sydney occupies two geographical regions: the Cumberland Plain, a relatively flat or rolling region lying to the south and west of the harbour, and the Hornsby Plateau, a plateau north of the harbour, up to 200 metres (656 ft) in elevation, dissected by forested valleys.
The Sydney CBD is bounded on the east side by a chain of parkland that extends from Hyde Park through the Domain and Royal Botanic Gardens to Farm Cove on the harbour.

A new study has found that fear of crime is very high among the immigrant population in Sydney but paradoxically most first and second generation immigrants living in the city's south-west feel safe in their local area.
The report Gangs, Crime and Community Safety: Perceptions and Experiences in Multicultural Sydney is the result of an extensive survey of 835 adults and young people, most from a non-English speaking background, conducted by researchers from the University of Technology, Sydney and the University of Western Sydney.
Fear of crime is very high among the immigrant population in Sydney, but substantially among adults, and women in particular.

But I thought there wouldn't be much crime in Oz, what with their having gun-control and all?
This article is a bit over the top,though im sure the cop who wrote it has seen more of Sydney than i have.Still,i have lived in Sydney all my life and have never seen a 'middle eastern gang'.

The much-maligned Chubb security guards will be taken off Sydney's trains under an overhaul of CityRail security unveiled yesterday by the Transport Services Minister, Michael Costa.
In their place, StateRail will introduce 500 transit officers and create 20 new 17-member transit officer patrol squads to collect intelligence and target hotspots.
"It's not surprising that if you look at those stations, they tend to be located in areas that have broader crime problems," Mr Costa said.
