The Crimean Khanate or the Khanate of Crimea (; - Krymskoye khanstvo; - Kryms'ke khanstvo;) was a Crimean Tatar state from 1441 to 1783.
The Crimean Khanate was founded when certain clans of the Golden Horde Empire ceased their nomadic life in the Desht-i Kipchak (Kypchak Steppes of today's Ukraine and South Russia), decided to make Crimea their yurt (homeland) and invited a Genghisid contender for the Golden Horde throne, Hacı Giray, to be their khan.
The rule of the last Crimean khan Şahin Giray was marked with increasing Russian influence and outbursts of violence from the side of the khan administration towards internal opposition.

The present paper is a short report of the fieldwork done between August 31 and September 30, 1997, as well as June 13 and July 7, 1998, in Turkey in the regions inhabited by the Crimean Tatars and Noghais.
Crimean Tatar villages are also reported to be located in southern Turkey near Adana, in Ceyhan district: Çakaldere, Toktamis, Küçük Kirim and Büyük Kirim.
The villages do not have a standard layout, a few villages resemble Crimean settlements, and the unique one is that of Serefiye, which imitates the layout of a modern Crimean village.
