Criminal Minded - Boogie Down Productions - Song Listings
Criminal Minded is widely considered the foundation of hardcore rap, announcing its intentions with a cover photo of KRS-One and Scott La Rock (on his only album with Boogie Down Productions) posing with weapons -- an unheard-of gesture in 1987.
BDP weren't the first to rap about inner-city violence and drugs, and there's no explicit mention of gangs on Criminal Minded, but it greatly expanded the range of subject matter that could be put on a rap record, and its grittiest moments are still unsettling today.
Overall it's very consistent, so even if the meat of Criminal Minded is the material that lives up to the title, the raw talent on display is what cements the album's status as an all-time classic.

  Criminal Minded (album) - Wikipedia
Boogie Down Productions' Criminal Minded was a highly influential hip hop album.
It was produced in part by KRS One and Scott La Rock but was created in larger part (with little credit) due to the production of Ced-Gee of Ultramagnetic MC's fame.
Criminal Minded served as a sign of what was to come from the group as the album is at times somewhat concious (less than later recordings), sometimes somewhat hardcore (the influences of which were said to have helped create gangsta Rap), and sometimes rather vulgar (most noticeably on the track, Super-Hoe).

While there is, of course, no obligation for the blogger to publicise the album in question, either in a full review or simply recommendations to friends, that is clearly what the record label is hoping for.
Not to mention a criminal who isn’t smart enough to get his copy of QuickTime and re-align the tracks to rip them properly.
This is all a terrible shame, as the album in question is really very good: so much so that, had it not come bundled with a free slap in the face, I would have made sure that anyone with a remotely compatible music taste to myself would have known how good I thought it was.

CRIMINAL MINDED was the first of a string of albums (including RHYME PAYS, PAID IN FULL) which in 1987 established the blueprint for what would become hardcore or gangsta rap.
The harder style that CRIMINAL MINDED introduced was a backlash to the Marley Marl/Juice Crew monopoly on mid-'80s hip-hop ("South Bronx" and "The Bridge is Over" express these sentiments in no uncertain terms).
Even so, the staccato, reggae-inflected beats programmed with that reel (another first; "9 MM" and "The 'P' Is Free" were the first rap tracks to openly celebrate hip-hop's Jamaican roots) and the unprecedented sophistication of the battle-rhymes that KRS spread on top are pure BDP, with few equals in the history of rap music.

One of the more useful figurative meanings we've assigned to "flat" is that of "absolutely," as in the phrase "flat broke," giving the sense of "reduced to a flat state, absolutely without substance or variation." A related sense is "exactly, precisely, not exceeding," which appeared in the U.S. in the early 20th century.
