JSA #52 Review - Silver Bullet Comics
As the two go about the business of being heroes, we see the Crimson Avenger arrives on the scene, but her helping hand is quickly turned against our two heroes, as she comes gunning for Wildcat for something he has done has earned him the wrath of her guns.
The sheer brutality of this attack by the Crimson Avenger also effectively crosses her off the JSA's Christmas card list, and I imagine the team will be quite eager to see her brought to justice for these attacks.
However, the real reason this issue earns itself a recommendation in my book is that it features the return of the Crimson Avenger who I find a very engaging character with a very cool gimmick, and she's also puts in a pretty decent showing as she takes down one of the JSA's more powerful members.

 The Unofficial Crimson Avenger Biography
The Crimson Avenger fought crime from the inside out, as many criminals considered him on the wrong side of the law, but as the tales of his crime-fighting spread, he became more of a traditional "mystery-man", even going as far as to adopting a streamlined crimson-and-gold costume, with Wing later adopting a gold-and-crimson costume.
In mid 1941, The Crimson Avenger and Wing became founding members of The Law's Legionnaires (or Seven Soldiers of Victory, as they were better known) while stopping The Hand in a plot to overthrow America.
The Crimson Avenger was one of the many early "mystery men" that relied on their inborn abilities, rather than "super-powers".

Beek's Books - The Crimson Avenger
The Crimson - as he was originally known, and as the historically-picky Thomas insists on calling him in this story set in 1938 - was one of the earliest batch of costumed heroes to appear in comicbooks in the late 30's, debuting in Detective Comics several issues before that guy in the bat suit.
The Crimson finds himself in the middle of a plot he doesn't quite grasp, with enigmatic foreign women, strange objects, and shadowy conspirators weaving around him.
It's now over 61 years since the Crimson Avenger first appeared, but the character is still a pretty cool one, and the Thomases' treatment of him back on his 50th anniversary is still a pretty good read itself.

The grinning gent with the lead-spitting.45 is not — contrary to what your initial impulse may have led you to believe — the Shadow of "Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?" fame, nor the Spirit, Will Eisner's cemetery-dwelling masked detective, despite his passing resemblance to those two worthy crimebusters.

JSA #53 Review - Silver Bullet Comics
As the Crimson Avenger discovers that Wildcat is far more difficult to kill than her previous targets, we see Power Girl is also making an active effort to keep her teammate alive, but the Crimson Avenger relentless attacks have them both on their heels.
However, the battle is brought to an end when Wildcat uses a pause in the battle to explain his actions, and the Crimson Avenger finds a loophole that frees her from having to kill Wildcat.
The action is also quite impressive, as the scenes where the Crimson Avenger's bullets are tearing into Wildcat and Power Girl are almost cringe-worth, with the panel where Ted takes a head shot being particularly effective.
