 | | The area is famous for its gem-bearing gravels and the nearby temple of Saman Devale (which controls religious activities on top of the holy mountain, Adam's Peak) owns many gem-producing lands, some of which have produced rubies, sapphires and cat's-eyes since the dawn of history, and is very rich. |
 | | On arrival we can look around the hotel grounds, which harbour Crimson-fronted Barbet (split from Crimson-throated Barbet of south India), Brown Shrike, Large Cuckooshrike, Tawny-bellied Babbler and White-browed Fantail. |
 | | The flocks vary in composition but are invariably led by Orange-billed Babblers and Greater Racked-tailed Drongos, whilst regular participants include Black-rumped Flameback, Lesser Yellownape, White-faced Starling, Scarlet Minivet, Common Iora, Golden-fronted and Blue-winged Leafbirds, Yellow-browed Bulbul, Dark-fronted Babbler, Black-naped Monarch, Asian Paradise-Flycatcher, Velvet-fronted Nuthatch, White-throated and Pale-billed Flowerpeckers, and Purple-rumped Sunbird. |
