		King Crimson is a musical group founded by guitarist Robert Fripp and drummer Michael Giles in 1968.
		The name "King Crimson" was coined by Peter Sinfield as a synonym for Beelzebub, prince of demons.
		To him King Crimson "is a way of doing things,"[1] and the musical consistency that has persisted throughout the band's history, despite continuous rotation of its members, reflects this point of view.

		I suspect little connection, as the band had been releasing records for 13 years before this character was created, however I suppose the character's name might have come from the band.
		The article says the band was founded in 1968, however, according to several sources, including DGM and notes from A Young Person's Guide to King Crimson, the band officially started on January 13, 1969.

		There are many King Crimson fans who are bound to consider this a waste, but I view it as an extremely interesting experiment in music that King Crimson just had to perform.

		There was a later UK record with a different lineup, but it has only a tenuous Crimson connection via Jobson so I'm not too worried about tracking it down.
		After a decade off for solo projects, the 80's King Crimson lineup reformed with two additions, making it a doubled power trio.
		The resulting record sounds like Crimson all right, especially on the instrumentals: Fripp hauls out the mellotron, gets the whole band arpeggiating, and lets Bruford bash and clatter.
