Warthen was most recently in the news for his April 2004 marriage to Cristina Schultz, a Stanford Law School graduate, against whom the federal government filed an asset forfeiture complaint in January 2004.
Schultz, who maintains a website under the name "Brazil," was notorious for allegedly paying $300,000 in law-school loans through a career as a call girl.
Warthen fought the forfeiture complaint, claiming the $61,000 in cash the government seized was his.

According to this Oakland Tribune article, Cristina Schultz, one of my Stanford Law School classmates (she was a 1L when I was a 3L), worked as a high-priced prostitute to pay off her law school loans.
Schultz, I paid for my law school education with loans, graduated, and then decided not to practice law.
But now, her name is circulating far beyond law school email lists because the federal government has used civil asset forfeiture laws to seize her assets, alleging that her dead presidents are the proceeds of a federal crime -- in this case, interstate prostitution.
