  Alessandro Allori - LoveToKnow 1911
ALESSANDRO ALLORI (1535-1607), Italian painter of the Florentine school, was brought up and trained in art by his uncle, Angelo Bronzino whose name he sometimes assumed in his pictures.
Visiting Rome in his nineteenth year, he carefully studied the works of Michelangelo; but the influence of that great master can only be traced in the anatomical correctness of his drawing of nude figures.
Allori became one of the foremost of this school.

Judith with the Head of Holofernes by ALLORI, Cristofano
Cristofano Allori trained in the school of his father and his grandfather, the leading Florentine Mannerist Agnolo Allori, known as Bronzino.
Even if Cristofano may be regarded as an artist who broke with late Mannerist tendencies and went on to become an express proponent of early Baroque reform ideas, he nevertheless continues to borrow certain traits of "Mannerist physiognomy" in order to heighten the effect of a picture.
Allori is said to have created a portrait of his mistress Mazzafirra in the figure of Judith and her mother in the figure of the elderly servant woman.

After his 1633 trial by the Inquisition in Rome for upholding the Copernican theory of planetary motion, Galileo is forced to reside in Siena; he is later permitted to move to Arcetri, near Florence, where he remains for the rest of his life.
Believed to depict his mistress La Mazzafirra as Judith and her mother as the serving-woman Abra—with the head of Holofernes possibly a self-portrait—the picture demonstrates Allori's lyrical style and literary approach to painting.
In addition to his success as a painter, Allori is known as a courtier, poet, and musician.

Pietro da Cortona, though a Tuscan native, was one of the founders of the more pastel, fluffy Roman baroque style, and has left significant works in his hometown of Cortona and on the Medici's ceilings of the Pitti Palace in Florence.
