Cristianita' - Cristoforo Colombo, ammiraglio genovese e "defensor fidei"

ntil the modern era, beginning about the time of the European discovery of the New World by the Italian Cristoforo Columbo sailing for Isabella of Spain, the idea of "nationalism" just did not exist in any way that would be recognizable today.
Two things contributed to the rise of this interesting state of mind we call "nationalism." The first was religion.
In a haze of nationalism this is more difficult to do, but in the clear bright light of patriotism, it is obvious!

Americans have expropriated the word "Indian" to mean Native American.
Look at the irony of this -- a foolish Italian navigator, Cristoforo Columbo, arrives in the Americas, and thinks he has reached India!
This leads to the imperialistic Americans usurping the name of a civilisation that has existed for thousands of years, and attributing it to their aboriginals!
