One of Mozilla's biggest advantages for a developer is that Mozilla-based applications are cross-platform, meaning programs work the same on Windows as they do on Linux or the Mac OS.
Mozilla 1.0 was released on June 5th, 2002, after more than four years of development as an open source project.
The book's contents were written with Mozilla 1.0.x in mind, so it is important to be aware of this when trying to use more recent versions such as Mozilla 1.4 or one of the Phoenix/Firebird releases.

One of the biggest disadvantages of using Mozilla Firefox is that any and every user of Mozilla Firefox can easily become used to the web browsing software application.
However, one advantage that is often ignored is the fact that Mozilla Firefox is very suitable for a person who is beginning to learn to use the web browsing software application.
One of the primary reason why Mozilla Firefox is suitable for the amateur or novice user is the fact that the layout of the web browsing window is such that it makes the user very comfortable.

Since that time a lot has happened; in particular the Mozilla Foundation reorganized to move its product development and distribution activities into the new Mozilla Corporation, and I took on a part-time position with the "new" Mozilla Foundation as Director of Policy.
Note also that I intend to publish the policy to the official Mozilla Foundation web site, but haven't yet done so; I may postpone this until we complete the reorganization of the Mozilla web site.

Will Firefox Thrive as Mozilla Wilts?
Chief among them: Mozilla is much easier to configure, and a single integrated suite of applications is simpler to deploy and manage in a business setting than multiple stand-alone apps.
But it turns out that this argument is moot: The Mozilla Suite as we know it today won't be competing with Firefox for much longer because the Mozilla Foundation has decided to end development of the suite with the current 1.7 version.
Also, the Mozilla code is open source, and there are already plans to continue its development outside the Mozilla Foundation, possibly using the Mozilla code name SeaMonkey as the moniker for the suite.
