Crixus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Crixus, a Gaul, fought alongside Spartacus and Oenomaus as one of the leaders of the rebellious slaves in the Third Servile War, from BC 73-72.
Spartacus wanted to flee for the slaves' homelands in Gaul and the Balkans, but Crixus is said to have set his heart on plunder, and stayed on in southern Italy.
In the spring of 72 BC one of the two Roman consuls sent to quash the rebellion, Lucius Gellius Publicola, caught up with Crixus and his forces, known as the Germans, at Apulia.

 Third Servile War
Crixus, the commander of the second part of the army, stupidly failed to realize that the small victories they enjoyed were against under prepared and disinterested opponents.
With 3,000 Germanics split from the main force of Spartacus, Crixus and his small army were rounded up and utterly destroyed.
In retaliation for the death of Crixus, and perhaps for his own tenure as a Roman slave, Spartacus had 300 pairs of Roman prisoners fight as gladiators to the death.

Coming of the Hurricane, a  Review
The central figure of Crixus, an ex-slave who had once made a name for himself as a "cutter" or bare-knuckled boxer and who was robbed of his family by whites, is initially incapable of showing his love for Kazarah who is pregnant with his child, clearly attributable to several ugly events in his own past.
But this is perhaps the most subtle symbolic action of the evening, as the theme of anger associated with post-emancipation slavery is an insistent one throughout the drama, with two notable and refreshing exceptions that come as scenes in the second act.
The first of these is a pre-fight encounter between Hurricane and Crixus, in which they define their characters well beyond the two dimensions we see during the rest of the play.
