The Eparchy of Križevci is the eparchy comprising the Croatian Byzantine Catholic Church, a Catholic Church sui iuris [1] of the Byzantine Eastern Rite.
The population was by and large faithful to the Serbian Orthodox Church, but the Roman Catholic Church accorded them a Byzantine vicar of the Latin Bishop of Zagreb in 1611.
The first Byzantine Catholic priest from Croatia came to the United States of America in 1902, whose work among Byzantine rite Croatians in Cleveland was encouraged by the bishop of Križevci.

Phillip and Jacob Catholic church at the Franciscan monastery in Vukovar, Croatia, referring to Pope John Paul II (bio - news) and Croatian President Franjo Tudjman, as Serbian extremists took steps to intimidate returning refugees.
The church itself was heavily damaged during fighting between Serbs and Croats in 1991, and while it is not in regular use, it has received pilgrims everyday since mid-January when the eastern part of Croatia was handed over under full Croatian sovereignty, previously being governed by the UN.
The church in Vukovar was a well-chosen target because Vukovar symbolizes Croatian resistance to Serbians, and was the most heavily damaged Croatian town during the civil war.
