The Crocker Motorcycle Company was an American manufacturer of single-cylinder speedway racing motorcycles from 1932, powerful V-twin road motorcycles from 1936, and the "Scootabout," one of the first modern styled motor scooters, in the late 1930s.
Many Crockers were manufactured to order and the largest of them were known to have had a 91+ cubic inch engine (about 1,491 cc), and was the largest-capacity "production" motorcycle until the Yamaha XV1600A took the title in 1998, followed by the Triumph Rocket III, with 2,294 cc (140 in³).
Crocker Motorcycle Company re-started as a hobby in the basement of Markus Karalash's home in 1997 producing limited parts for the Crocker restoration community.

While the most powerful motorcycle of its time, the Mammoth, largely due to its expensive $4000 price tag, never caught on, although it remains an interesting motorcycle that was considered ahead of its time.

Crocker worked at Indian for a number of years and eventually moved west to Los Angeles from Kansas City where he bought an Indian dealership.
Crocker's low production numbers and the fact that they were built on the west coast meant most of their clients are from the American west but the company does boast a worldwide client base.
One piece he was particularly proud of was a letter from Harley-Davidson head office in Milwaukee on August 28, 1936 to its dealers condemning Crocker and stating that anyone who has anything to do with the Crocker motorcycle will loose their dealership.

The Mt. Baker Motorcycle Club, founded in 1925, is one of the ten oldest motorcycle clubs in the United States and the second oldest on the Pacific Coast.
Recreational and sporting images of the motorcycle were somewhat tarnished in the tumultuous 1950s and ‘60s when non-conformist, rebellious bikers captured the American imagination and a new stereotype was formed after a notorious riot in 1947 of a gathering of motorcyclists in the quiet town of Hollister, California.

Wells chitty chitty bang bangs that ran on a wild assortment of fuels: kerosene, steam, gasoline, moonshine, you name it.
Some fifty years ago a Crocker, supposedly the victim of a kamikaze attack, was sent to Davy Jones's locker while aboard a U.S. aircraft carrier sunk during the ferocious Battle of the Coral Sea.
Crocker enthusiasts still search for bits and pieces and lost New Guinea Crockers in their dedicated efforts to keep the Crocker up and running.

Jim Crocker is the owner of Alabama Indian Restoration at 1324-B Main Street in Tarrant.
Purchasing and tinkering with a box of antique motorcycle parts a few years ago progressed into a passion for the American-made cycles – manufactured from 1901 to 1953.
Indian motorcycles have manual starters and gear-shifts, so even though most of them start pretty quick, it's not gonna be just jumping on and pushing a button, like on a Harley.

Actually Albert Crocker used to work for Indian so resemblances between Crocker and Indian parts (tanks, Scout-like forks, aluminum primary cover and generator drive location) are not just coincidence.
While some parts were obtained by Al Crocker from Indian and Harley dealers, it is not true that the bike was a combination of Indian and Hog parts.
As is typical of the Indian management of the 1940's, and Indian's own failing finances, they turned their noses up at a golden opportunity and looked a gift horse in the mouth, just as they did in 1949 when they had the chance to power new Chiefs with Vincent engines.

Joe Petrali, or Smokin’ Joe, as his friends liked to call him, was arguably the country’s finest racer from the mid-1920s to the mid-30s, and perhaps one of the greatest motorcycle racers of all time.
Petrali’s retirement symbolically marked an end of the great three-decade era in motorcycle racing, where it was the cream of the best racers in the country competing against one another on the best racing machines the factories could build.
Petrali, who made his home in the Los Angeles area, often gave talks on the old days of racing to motorcycling clubs and was famous for always carrying an AMA membership card that identified him as AMA Life Member #1.
