Crocodylus moreletii is one of four currently recognized species of New World Crocodylus, the genus that includes nearly half of the worlds’ extant species of crocodylians.
Crocodylus moreletii was restored to scientific acceptance by Karl Schmidt (1924), who demonstrated that these animals are indeed found in Belize (then British Honduras), and are distinct from the American crocodile, also found in that country.

The breeding season generally begins in May and although females normally dig hole-nests in the wild, they are capable of building mound-nests under certain condidions; the average clutch size is 30 - 40 eggs (4).
In the wild, individuals can interbreed with the American crocodile (Crocodylus acutus) whose breeding season overlaps with that of the Cuban crocodile (4).
This hybridisation appears to be natural but may pose a threat to the genetic purity of this species if population numbers fall.

trigonatus (can't remember, it's been a while), Crocodylus niloticus, and possibly C.
Most of the rest are endangered and difficult or impossible to come by.
I've also seen various hybrid crocs, such as C. rhombifer x C. niloticus.
