Cronstadt is situated on the island of Kotlin in the Gulf of Finland, about 20 kilometers from St. Petersburg.

CRONSTADT (" The Town of the Crown,") the companion subject, is a town, fortress, and port, in the Russian Government of St. Petersburg, from which city it is about thirty-one miles distant.
